The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) is calling on the UK’s small and medium-sized enterprises to look upon Brexit as an opportunity to ‘break into new markets’ outside of the European Union (EU).
Writing in The Independent in recent days, BCC director general Adam Marshall has said that businesses need to “embrace an international outlook”.
He says: “If the UK is to succeed beyond Brexit, it must take full advantage of this disruptive opportunity to break into new markets and forge new relationships.
“Of course, there are risks involved, but those that take that leap onto the global stage are often rewarded with higher growth, productivity and profitability.
“The UK’s high-growth firms recognise that being ambitious means being international,” he adds.
However, despite these motivational words, Mr Marshall has stressed that businesses of all shapes and sizes need expert “practical, face-to-face” support in order to expand into new markets smoothly and successfully.
Mr Marshall is also calling on the next Government to take action to “alleviate the burden of upfront taxes and costs,” which he says are “hammering firms and increasing the cost of doing business in the UK”.
