The UK tech sector has been named as the ‘world leader’ in eliminating cybersecurity threats by Microsoft and Google.
It comes after Google, Microsoft and other companies announced plans to invest £190 million in new and innovative UK tech start-ups.
Around £117 million in private investment and £70 million in public funds will be used to develop “new and secure” technologies capable of defending against cyber-attacks.
New research recently revealed that 30 per cent of all UK businesses have experienced a cyber-security breach or attack in the last 12 months, the impact of which can be huge.
According to the study, businesses are increasing expenditure on cybersecurity year-on-year – up to 40 per cent of their total IT spend in some cases.
Greg Clark, Business Secretary, said: “As we move to a more data-driven economy, nearly all UK businesses and organisations are reliant on these digital technologies and online services – but the threat of cyber-attacks is ever-present, with more than 30 per cent of businesses having experienced a cyber-security breach or attack in the last 12 months.
