The UK creative industry is contributing more than £100 billion every year to the economy.
This is an increase of more than 50 per cent since 2010 when it was worth £66 billion to the UK economy.
The success of Britain’s creative industry has been lauded by Liam Fox, Secretary of state for International Trade. The impact of cultural exports through major programming being produced in the UK has had a positive impact on tourism, the economy and consumer trends.
Game of Thrones is filmed in Northern Ireland, and since the show began in 2011 there have been an extra 150,000 people visiting the country each year.
Nearly 2 million people are employed in the UK film and TV industry, with TV series generating millions for local UK economies.
In Belfast, TV series generate £180 million every year for the local economy.
Shows such as Game of Thrones have extremely large audiences, with over 1 billion people tuning in from 170 countries to the final series of the HBO programme.
The series has generated interest and increased visitor numbers in Northern Ireland, with the industry being praised for the benefits it brings to the economy.
Liam Fox, Secretary of State for International Trade said: “Not only have exports and investment attributed to the show (Game of Thrones) surged in Northern Ireland, but the best of British talent from across the UK have taken advantage of the opportunities it presented.
“I encourage creative business to tap into this success and I want to further strengthen international ties in the industry to make it easier for companies of all sizes to do business internationally.”
